Manchester United Win First Trophy Since 2017 with Carabao Cup Victory
Erik ten Hag's Side Triumph in Final
Casemiro and Rashford Goals Secure Victory
Manchester United clinched their first trophy since 2017 with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 26th. Erik ten Hag's side dominated the match, with Casemiro's header and a Sven Botman own goal securing the win and ending United's six-year trophy drought.
Casemiro put United ahead in the 33rd minute when he rose above the Newcastle defense to head home Luke Shaw's corner. The Brazilian's goal gave the Red Devils a well-deserved lead after they had controlled the opening stages of the game.
United doubled their advantage just six minutes later through Rashford. The England international latched onto a pass from Bruno Fernandes and drove into the Newcastle penalty area before firing past Loris Karius to make it 2-0.
Newcastle had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to beat David de Gea in the United goal. Kieran Trippier hit the crossbar with a free kick in the first half, while Allan Saint-Maximin had a shot saved by de Gea in the second half.
United held on to their lead comfortably in the second half, with Newcastle unable to create any clear-cut chances. The Red Devils saw out the game professionally to secure their first trophy under ten Hag.
The win is a major boost for ten Hag, who has now won his first trophy as Manchester United manager. It is also a significant moment for the club, who have been without a major trophy since Jose Mourinho won the Europa League in 2017.
